Thanksgiving

We send our warm wishes during this Thanksgiving season to let you know we’re thinking of you and to let you know how thankful we are for patients as wonderful as you.

October is National Orthodontic Health Month-the perfect time to remind patients in braces which treats they should avoid this Halloween and which treats are fine to enjoy.

On Halloween night, most parents know what to look for when checking their child's trick-or-treat candy for safety. But, what about children with braces? Do you know what kinds of candy your children should avoid to keep from damaging their braces this Halloween? The Super Dentists urges patients to steer clear of the following treats as they may cause damage to braces and lengthen treatment time:

Hard candy
Jelly beans
Licorice
Taffy
Caramel or other chewy candies

Of course, Halloween does not have to be completely treatless. Plain chocolate candy is okay, provided you remember to brush and floss afterwards. A good treat that won't cause damage is thinly sliced apples, dipped in yogurt dip or creamy chocolate sauce. Tips for Halloween goodies:

Designate a time each day to eat the candy. Children can eat what they want – provided they brush and floss their teeth after they are done.
Avoid snacks that are long lasting in the mouth if possible. The duration creates an acid attack on your teeth for the entire time the snack is in the mouth.
Offer nutritional alternatives along with Halloween booty, such as fruits, nuts, cheeses and sugar-free products or 100 percent natural fruit juices.

The Super Dentists want to help patients enjoy the Halloween season by providing orthodontic safety information and also provide children with a safe Halloween venue at their 11th annual Halloween Spooktacular and SAFE Trick or Treat at the Eastlake Village Shopping Center on October 29, 2011 from Noon-2pm.

Halloween goodies will be provided by participating merchants that will be passing out candy to the trick or treaters in costume. There will also be 8 carnival games, a petting zoo, horse rides and a costume contest directly in front of The Super Dentists. The winner of the costume contest will receive FREE BRACES and there is also a chance to win FREE smile brightening and other great prizes!

The Super Dentists will also be hosting their 7th annual Candy Buy Back event on November 1st from 8am to 5pm. For each pound of candy you bring to The Super Dentists in Eastlake (2226 Otay Lakes Road, Chula Vista, CA 91915) they will give $1.00 to the Rady Children's Hospital Foundation and $1.00 to you! All of the candy they collect will be sent to American troops serving overseas.

The Super Dentists have been serving the community of Chula Vista since 1996, providing the specialty of pediatric dentistry and orthodontic treatment for thousands of patients. In a welcoming office especially designed for children, adolescents, and adults alike, patients enjoy exceptional care that results in healthy smiles, beautiful faces, a strong sense of confidence and self-esteem.
